Sadhguru | Humanity vs. Morality

“Why is it… our education systems, our social mechanisms,we are not doing enough to stir up humanity in a human being, we are trying to fix it with morality and it’s never worked. All we will do is divide people into different kinds of moral sects and they will always fight”
-Sadhguru

Some good points made in this video. My take is that we need to teach universally relevant tools like Common Sense, Humanity, Self Honesty, the practicalities of interpersonal dynamics in different situations, how to work with words and definitions practically, and how to look at what is best / most effective / most relevant within a given Context based on common sense – rather than teaching people to label and judge words and behaviors based on systems of absolute right and wrong. Morality is a substitute for common sense, self honesty, and humanity.

Developing common sense based on the principle of finding what is best for all is challenging. But it is the way to get around the morality systems and the fighting. There’s always a way to dismantle the ‘logic’ of a fight, using common sense. Fighting is the result of a lack of looking at things with common sense, self honesty, and humanity. For example, when you look at two people who are reacting to each other and screaming at each other — they might each be convinced of the logic of their behavior – “you made me feel bad so you are bad and so now you should feel bad’. Whereas, the common sense is that — screaming at each other while being taken over by emotional energy is not best for either person, or for anyone. And the self honesty would be — “your words triggered a reaction in me, because of the way I’ve defined myself and defined the words you used” – which opens up the door to taking self responsibility to now investigate: how did I set myself up to react? What self definition / ideas / memories / thought patterns am I accepting and allowing to define me and define the way I see this type of scenario that made me react?

Fortunately there are lots of people and groups in the world who are bringing forth ways of looking at things with practicality, humanity, and common sense. At Desteni, we have an online course called the “Desteni I Process”, or DIP, where you learn to go into great depth and specificity with your common sense and self honesty, so that you can more effectively and specifically tackle patterns and inner experiences you want to change about yourself. When you understand how a design of morality and conflict plays out within your own mind, words, and behaviors — then you can start seeing that same design play out in larger contexts within society and world events. The more we grow our common sense and self responsibility and humanity as individuals, the more we grow these principles in our society, and the more our society will reflect these principles. Currently our society still predominantly reflects principles of blame, reaction, self justification, self righteousness, self limitation, and moralistic opinions and beliefs. That’s why our leaders are the way the way they are. As WE change, our world will change.
