I found recently that the handgun is a good representation of how we
‘get triggered’. I’ve laid it out as follows:
Bullet / Am-munition:
“Loaded Word” packed with emotionally charged associations stemming from memories of past events involving that word, in which self formed ideas, definitions, beliefs, judgments about something, that have become part of your Self Definition as ‘Who I Am’. You now carry this “Loaded Word” with you into every moment.
Trigger:
“External events” as situations, words, actions, facial expressions, etc, which “activate” / “set off” your Loaded Word within a specific scenario. More specifically, it is the External Events which cause you to Pull your Own Trigger, as it is Self who has Programmed the Loaded Word, even through Self might not realize or see this in the moment. This is why it is so easy to immediately blame the external event as being the ’cause’ of what Self is experiencing.
Flash:
The Reactive Emotional Experience as ‘energetic charge’ that is activated / released upon being triggered. This charge is built into the “Loaded Word”.
Trajectory:
The Path, or Play-Out you live as Decisions, Words, Actions, that are Preprogrammed into the Loaded Word as a Pattern.
Impact:
The Outcome / Consequence of the Activation and Play-Out of the Loaded Word.
The reason why we believe our emotional reactions toward one another are ‘normal’, and ‘just part of being human’, is because our programming / our patterns activate and move so quickly, that we only Feel the Energy which immediately turns into words and behaviors, instead of seeing in detail what information is actually being activated within ourselves, and where that information is coming from.
This is why I enjoy working with the Desteni tools so much. I don’t like to just ‘cope with’, or ‘manage’ my emotions. I want to understand where they are coming from, how I created the pattern, and in what way I can restructure and redefine my relationship to my ‘triggers’, in a way where I am not being controlled by preprogrammed associations from my past — but where I am able to be here, present, and direct myself and support myself in that moment to remain practical, and come to points of self reflection, understanding, consideration, and solutions.

The concepts that are stored in this ‘Desteni’ analogy could form the basis for educational programs in places where guns are part of culture!
